How to set up ErrorX on Android

Install the ErrorX APK, sign in, and accept Android's VPN prompt. Includes the battery-optimisation step that keeps the tunnel alive overnight, and per-app routing.

Download the right APK

Open the ErrorX download page on your phone. The Android build is split by processor type: take arm64-v8a, which covers essentially every phone made since 2017. Only choose armeabi-v7a for a genuinely old 32-bit device, or x86_64 for an emulator.

If you are unsure, arm64-v8a is the right answer. Installing the wrong one fails harmlessly with a parse error.

Allow the install

Android will ask whether to allow installs from your browser or file manager the first time. Grant it, install the APK, then open ErrorX. You can revoke that permission again afterwards if you prefer.

Sign in through your browser

Press Continue with ErrorX. Your browser opens the ErrorX login page; sign in with Google, Facebook or Discord and it returns you to the app automatically. The app has no password field of its own.

Accept the Android VPN prompt

The first time you press Start, Android shows its own connection-request dialog asking whether ErrorX may set up a VPN. This is the operating system asking, not the app — accept it, or no traffic can be routed. A persistent notification appears while connected, which Android requires of any VPN.

If you decline it, revoke ErrorX under Settings → Network → VPN and press Start again to get the prompt back.

Exempt ErrorX from battery optimisation

Android battery managers freeze background apps, which silently drops the tunnel when your screen is off. Open Settings → Apps → ErrorX → Battery and choose Unrestricted. On Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and Samsung there is usually a separate Autostart or Protected apps toggle to enable as well.

Skipping this is the single most common reason people report Android disconnecting overnight.

Choose which apps go through the tunnel

Optional but worth knowing about. Under Access control you can route only selected apps, or route everything except a chosen list. Banking and delivery apps that dislike VPNs are the usual candidates for exclusion.

Add the Quick Settings tile from your notification shade to connect and disconnect without opening the app.

Check that it actually helped

Test against something genuinely international — a BDIX speed test was already fast and will tell you nothing.

Note your download speed from a cloud or GitHub target before connecting
Connect, then run exactly the same test again
Compare the two numbers — that difference is what you are paying for
Your dashboard shows the device as online while the tunnel is up

Open the speed test

If something goes wrong

It disconnects when the screen is off: Your battery manager is freezing the app. Set ErrorX to Unrestricted under battery settings, and enable Autostart or Protected apps if your manufacturer has one.
The install fails with a parse error: Wrong APK for your processor. Download the arm64-v8a build unless you know your device is 32-bit.
One app refuses to work while connected: Some banking and payment apps block VPN connections outright. Exclude that app under Access control rather than disconnecting entirely.
No VPN prompt appears and nothing routes: The consent was declined earlier and Android remembers. Revoke ErrorX under Settings → Network → VPN, then press Start again.
